Who I Am

I am originally from Tanzania, in East Africa. I came to the US to study civil engineering at Columbia University but that is not where my passion lay. Throughout high school and university, I joined various tutoring organizations to help students in need.

I genuinely enjoy seeing students learn and develop new skills and understanding. Some of my favorite snippets of life come from students who have that 'ah-ha!' moment in one of our sessions. I strive to bring the best to every session and cater my tutoring style to each student's needs.

No two students are alike, and I feel it is essential to recognize this when dealing with education.

My Services

All tutoring sessions are done remotely. I use a variety of platforms and online tools to accomplish this. All the student needs is a good internet connection. In case of poor internet, the student can disable their video to save on bandwidth. If the student has any course material, I ask that they send it ahead of time so I can review it ahead of our session.

Most sessions are between one to two hours, but I can accommodate shorter sessions if that would prove more manageable. I can hand out materials and homework after each session to target those weak points identified during the session.

One on One Tutoring

$75 per hour

Group Sessions

$120 per hour for the whole group

Kindergarten

Basic reading and math skills, with a focus on logical thinking and early-age puzzle problems. The main focus at this early stage is to plant the seeds of critical thinking abilities and to encourage a love for learning.

Elementary and Middle School

Developing good study habits and reinforcing consistency. At this stage, we can work on more general lessons in whatever the student is interested in, or focus on areas that they are struggling with in school.

High School

Focusing on those early high-level concepts presented in many classes, as well as preparing for college standardized tests and essays. This can be an academically difficult time for many students, so we'll place an emphasis on efficient study techniques.

College and University

The depth and intricacies of subjects covered in university can be very daunting for many students. We'll work on those high-level problems that can be very intimidating, and we'll break them down into simpler and easier-to-handle components.

Adult and Other Learners

I encourage anyone with a desire to learn to reach out to me with their specific needs and what they would like to accomplish out of tutoring.

Reviews from Students and Parents

Again, Hussayn really helped to break down components of finding forces in physics problems. He helped where I got stuck and also talked through where I may have gone wrong. He was patient with me and very helpful. This was in preparation of an upcoming exam.

Shelby

Hussayn shared strategies with me on how to find solutions to some civil engineering mechanics problems. He is outstanding and a pleasure to work with. He was efficient and reliable and I would highly recommend him.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • I am concerned about remote tutoring and its effectiveness. What do you do to ensure remote tutoring works for each student?
Remote tutoring is a very different environment than in-person tutoring and lessons. As such, it needs to be handled with a different set of tools, which is something many schools and teachers do not do. I use the remote aspect of tutoring as an advantage, not a hurdle. With access to a myriad of internet resources, including collaborative whiteboards and image/video resources, I can keep students engaged and teach them concepts using various approaches not available with in-person tutoring.
  • What platforms do you use for your sessions?
Zoom, Google Meet, Skype, and other other platform the student would like to use.
  • Do you teach students who are home-schooled?
Yes, and I can create syllabuses for those students comparable to leading academic institutions.
  • What should I expect out of our first session?
The first session is when I learn what works best for you. Everyone is a uniquely different learner, and I do my best to find out what helps you learn most efficiently.
  • How many sessions do you recommend I sign up for?
I recommend at least once or twice weekly to get the most consistent results.
  • Can I sign up for just one lesson?
Of course! If you just need some help with an upcoming test or a piece of homework, feel free to get in touch.
